GTA 6: Rockstar Moves Up Preload Date to November 10, Nine Days Before Launch

There are just 16 days left until the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. With the game scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, Rockstar Games is entering the final stretch of preparations as new details about the digital release begin to emerge.
The latest development concerns the game's preload schedule. In a Newswire post on November 3, Rockstar announced that players who bought the game digitally can start pre-loading GTA 6 on November 10, two days earlier than the November 12 date given when pre-orders opened.
The change will allow players who purchased the digital edition to download the game files ahead of launch. This means they can have the title installed and ready to play when the official release window opens, avoiding potentially long download times on launch day.
Rockstar also confirmed the storage requirement: the pre-load "will require up to 212 GB depending on your device," so the exact figure may differ slightly between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
GTA 6: Release Date, File Size and Platforms
-
Official release date: November 19, 2026.
-
Preload begins: November 10, 2026.
-
File size: up to 212 GB, depending on the console (confirmed by Rockstar).
-
Launch platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
With just over two weeks remaining before launch, players may want to start checking their console storage and making room for the installation. At up to 212 GB, GTA 6 will require a considerable amount of free space.
Attention now turns to Rockstar's final preparations ahead of the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, one of the most anticipated video games in recent years.
Correction (November 3, 2026): an earlier version of this story said the 212 GB size was an estimate not yet confirmed by Rockstar. Rockstar's Newswire post confirms the pre-load will require up to 212 GB, depending on the device.
Context
When pre-orders opened in June, Rockstar said digital copies could start pre-loading on November 12. On November 3, a Rockstar Newswire post moved digital pre-loading up to November 10, nine days before the November 19 launch. Code-in-box copies are not affected: they reach retailers on November 12.
What we know
- PS5: pre-load opens on November 10 at midnight local time, so it starts first in the earliest time zones.
- Xbox Series X|S: pre-load opens worldwide at 12 a.m. GMT on November 10 (7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on November 9).
- Rockstar says the pre-load "will require up to 212 GB depending on your device".
- Code-in-box versions are available from retailers from November 12.
- On November 19, Rockstar will add a printable cover art poster and a map of Leonida to its site; a double-sided physical version of the poster will follow shortly after launch.
What we don't know yet
- The exact size on each console: Rockstar only gives a maximum.
- Whether a launch-day patch will add to the download.
- The pre-load post doesn't say what time the game unlocks on November 19.
VICEVERSA's take
Moving the pre-load up two days is a small change with a practical goal: spreading one of the biggest downloads of this console generation over more than a week instead of a single night. The size is the bigger story. Last week, PlayStation Store data pointed to about 210 GB, and Rockstar's "up to 212 GB" is close to that. On a launch-model PS5, with about 667 GB of usable space, that is roughly a third of the drive; on an Xbox Series S, with about 364 GB, it would be more than half, unless the Series S version turns out smaller. If you bought digitally, clear the space before November 10.
