Rumor: Rockstar Games Has Reportedly Started Sending GTA 6 Review Codes, Insider Claims

Rumor. Not officially confirmed yet. It may change before launch.
Rockstar Games has reportedly begun distributing review codes for Grand Theft Auto VI to selected media outlets, according to industry insider NateTheHate. The report also points to November 18, 2026, as the expected date for reviews to be published, one day before the game's reported release date.
The alleged distribution was discussed on social media, but neither Rockstar Games nor its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has officially confirmed the information. As a result, both the reported delivery of review codes and the review embargo date should be treated as unverified claims.
If the report proves accurate, selected outlets could have several weeks to evaluate the game before publishing their reviews. An extended review period would give journalists more time to explore different aspects of the experience, including the main storyline, side activities, and technical performance. Rockstar adopted a similar approach with Red Dead Redemption 2, although review access periods and conditions can vary from one release to another.
The possibility of early access has also raised concerns about leaks. With review copies potentially circulating outside the developer's studios, details about the story, unreleased footage, and previously unseen gameplay mechanics could emerge online before launch. However, there is no public confirmation of the specific security measures Rockstar may have implemented in this case. The use of non-disclosure agreements and other protective systems should therefore not be assumed without supporting evidence.
Players who want to experience the game without prior spoilers may choose to mute keywords related to GTA 6 on social media and avoid content that could reveal important story details.
As of now, neither the distribution of review codes nor the publication date for reviews has been officially confirmed. If NateTheHate's report is accurate, November 18 could mark the release of the first reviews for Grand Theft Auto VI. Until Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive makes an announcement, however, the date remains unconfirmed.
Context
NateTheHate's post on X was short: "Rockstar Games have begun to distribute review code of Grand Theft Auto 6 to media outlets. Review embargo is November 18th." Earlier in October he had said codes would go out before the end of the month, and before that some had claimed Rockstar would not send review codes at all (GTA BOOM). Insider Gaming had already reported that reviews would go live before November 19.
A review embargo one day before launch is exactly what Rockstar did with Red Dead Redemption 2: its reviews went live on October 25, 2018, and the game launched on October 26.
What we know
- Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has confirmed the claim, and no outlet has publicly said it received a code (GTA BOOM).
- If the date is right, reviews would arrive six days after preloading opens on November 12, and on the same day as the Miami Heat's "A Night in Vice City" game.
- Codes sent at the end of October would give critics about three weeks with the game.
- Notebookcheck raised concerns that YouTuber Shirrako, known for posting full walkthroughs early, may have received a copy, based only on an emoji post. Nothing is confirmed.
What we don't know yet
- Which outlets received codes, and whether the code is the final launch version. Spilled notes that review builds can differ from launch builds, and no day-one patch has been confirmed.
- Whether the embargo covers full reviews or only partial impressions, and what restrictions apply to videos and streams.
- Whether codes went to content creators as well as press, which is where most spoiler risk comes from.
VICEVERSA's take
NateTheHate's record on GTA 6 has been good this year, and the date matches Rockstar's own habit with Red Dead Redemption 2, so this rumor is more credible than most. It is still a rumor, which is why this article is labeled as one.
For buyers, the timing matters more than the reviews: with preload on November 12 and reviews on the 18th, most people will have downloaded the game before reading a single verdict. If you want to avoid spoilers, the riskiest window starts now, not on launch day.
