GTA 6 editions and prices: Standard vs Ultimate, the $399 collector's box and which one to buy

What each GTA VI edition costs, what the pre-order bonus includes, why the boxed copy has no disc, what comes in the Goodtime State collection and how to decide what to buy.

GTA VI has two editions of the game, a pre-order bonus, a boxed version that holds a code instead of a disc, and a $399.99 collector's box that doesn't contain the game at all. It is easy to pay for the wrong thing. This guide explains every option Rockstar has announced, in plain terms, and ends with our honest recommendation.

Prices below are the official US prices announced by Rockstar. Prices in other currencies vary by store and region — always check the final price at checkout on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store or your retailer.

The two editions of the game

The Standard Edition is the complete game. Nothing in the story or the open world is locked behind the more expensive version.

The Ultimate Edition adds a large bundle of single-player extras: additional cars and bikes, special weapon variants for Jason and Lucia, Vice City-themed clothing, tattoos and hairstyles, plus early access to some shops and customization options. Take-Two said after pre-orders opened that most buyers were choosing the Ultimate Edition. Rockstar lists the full contents on each store page; it's worth reading before you pay the extra $20.

The pre-order bonus

Everyone who pre-orders either edition receives the Vintage Vice City Pack, inspired by the original 2002 Vice City: a classic 1955 Vapid Stanier, a Shore Court garage to keep it in, and exclusive retro outfits and hairstyles. According to the pre-order terms reported when sales opened, the bonus is guaranteed for purchases made before November 20, 2026, the day after launch.

A useful detail: digital stores sell an upgrade from Standard to Ultimate (in Brazil, for example, it was listed at R$ 100 when pre-orders opened). If you are unsure about the Ultimate content, the cheaper option doesn't lock you out.

Why the physical copy has no disc

When pre-orders opened, Rockstar confirmed that the boxed versions sold in stores will contain a download code inside the case rather than a game disc. The decision was widely reported as a way to prevent the game from leaking through early retail copies, a real risk after years of leaks around GTA VI.

What it means in practice:

  • You need an internet connection and enough free storage to download the game.
  • A "physical" copy can't be installed from the box on a console with no connection.
  • Reselling or lending a boxed copy works differently than with a disc: once the code is redeemed, the game is tied to that account.
  • Buying the box can still make sense as a gift or when a retailer offers a discount on the code.

Reports that a disc version could follow later have not been confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two.

Pre-load and launch timing

Pre-loading begins on November 12, 2026, a week before release. Given the size of a modern Rockstar game and the number of people who will try to download it on the same night, pre-loading is the single best thing you can do to play at launch. Rockstar has not yet published unlock times for each region, so check your console's store page closer to the date for the exact time in your country — we will add it here as soon as it is official.

The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection ($399.99)

On September 24, 2026 Rockstar revealed Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, a collector's box sold on the Rockstar Store for $399.99 (also listed at £349.99, €399.99 and CA$559.99). It is limited to one per customer and, crucially, does not include the game.

The box contains merchandise themed around Vice City and the Leonida Keys:

  • a figure of Macca the gator with a twist-open base;
  • Oakley Frogskins sunglasses;
  • a New Era 9FORTY cap;
  • a Leonida Keys crossbody bag;
  • a Macca the gator magnetic mirror;
  • a Chunkee the Manatee shot glass;
  • a collectible Vice City swizzle spoon and a razor-blade keychain;
  • a set of nine Leonida Keys enamel pins in a metal tin and a sticker pack;
  • a double-sided souvenir poster with the map of Leonida.

Reaction from fans was mixed, mostly because of the price and the missing game. If you want it as a collector's item, buy it for what it is: a box of officially licensed merchandise, and budget for a copy of the game on top.

GTA VI accessories: the limited-edition DualSense

Sony announced two limited-edition DualSense controllers themed after GTA VI in September 2026, priced at $84.99 each. According to Sony's announcement, the black version is exclusive to PlayStation Direct, while the white version is also sold by retailers. They are cosmetic: they work like any standard DualSense and don't unlock anything in the game.

Which one should you buy?

Our recommendation, based only on what has been officially announced:

  • Most players: Standard Edition, pre-ordered digitally. You get the whole game, the pre-order bonus and pre-loading on November 12. You can upgrade later if the Ultimate extras turn out to matter to you.
  • Buy the Ultimate Edition if you already know you'll spend dozens of hours in single-player and enjoy collecting cars, outfits and customization — $20 is a small premium over a game you'll play for months.
  • Buy the boxed version only for gifting or if a retailer's discount beats the digital price. It's still a code.
  • Buy the collector's box only if you want the merchandise. It adds nothing to the game.

Whatever you choose, buy only from official stores and known retailers. "Cheap GTA 6 keys" on unofficial marketplaces and any site offering a download before November 19 are scams.
